Ahlul Bayt News Agency, Reflections – a Ramadan Retrospective, an exhibition featuring the works, including calligraphy and abstract art, of a diverse group of artists from the Middle East, Europe and the subcontinent opens today (August 30) in Bahrain.
The exhibition is being held under the patronage of Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Culture and is being brought to the Kingdom by Courtyard Gallery and Art Select, a Dubai based initiative launched by Sahar Enterprises.
The event will see artists such as Sir RM Naeem, Samiah Faridi and Bahrain-based artists Hussain Fateel and Abdulilah Arab showcase their best work at the Ritz Carlton till Tuesday, said a statement from Art Select.
With the accent in this extraordinary collection of art depicting calligraphy and abstracts, the artworks to be showcased include masterpieces by the artists in attendance as well as Ahmed Khan, Jamil Naqsh, Daria Blizhenskaya, Suchi Chidambaram, Asad Faruki, Sunil Das, Mazarine Memon, Astrid De Menzes of Portugal and London-based artist Faiza Shaikh, it stated.
In addition to Khan and Naqsh, others whose works have been recognized by auction houses such as Christie’s, Bonham’s and Sotheby’s will also be displayed, including Indian legend Suhas Roy and Najat Makki and Abdul Qadir Al Rais from the UAE.
Giving both masters and young contemporary artists a common platform has become Art Select’s forte and this is no more evident than with this exhibition, which has been designed to engage the viewer with its sense of unity and peace and where each work has been chosen with great care, the statement said.
As the event is taking place during Ramadan, a percentage of the art sales will support institutions in need, it added.
